A shepherd finds the Good Shepherd
“Tim” thanked God when he spotted the man sitting alone. He was obviously a member of the “outcast” Muslim people group Tim came to serve, and this was an opportunity to strike up a conversation with him.
That conversation led to others and, over months, developed into a warm friendship.
Tim learned that “Hassan” was a refugee from another country. Together, they discussed life and truth … and they read the Bible.
Hassan was normally a quiet man, but one day, as he and Tim were reading John 10 (about the Good Shepherd, whose sheep hear his voice), he became very animated.
"That's right!" Hassan declared. “It's true! If a stranger calls the sheep, they won't follow him."
Hassan continued, explaining that for many years … since boyhood … in his homeland he had worked from dawn to dusk as a shepherd. “The work of a shepherd is hard.” Hassan shook his head in wonder. “You say this Jesus was a shepherd, like me?”
Tim watched Hassan's face as he processed this new information. The Son of the Almighty God had identified Himself as a herder of sheep, the same humble, dirty position into which he, an outcast, had been born.
This story of Jesus, combined with many discussions, Bible studies and church services, had a life-changing impact on Hassan. Recently, he declared himself to be a Christian! Praise God for this new brother in Christ!
