A gentle and loving people, the Seraiki of Pakistan primarily occupy the southeastern part of the Punjab region. The several million people who make up this group constitute one of the largest ethnic blocs in all of Pakistan and, according to our knowledge, are the largest unengaged people group in the world. They are the majority ethnic population in major cities such as Bahawlpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Miawali, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ishmael Khan, Multan, and Mazafargardh.
There were workers among the Seraiki, but after 9/11/2001 there was a significant exodus of them from Pakistan, and now there is not one, that we know of, among the Seraiki.
As is true throughout Pakistan, the Seraiki do not turn to Allah for help (since He is perceived to be very distant), but rather to pirs. Pirs are Sufi saints, who gained a significant amount of spiritual power during the ascent of Islam in South Asia. Today, people visit their graves and pray to them in hopes that they will act as mediators to be heard by Allah.
